Ulala Session‘s songs are gaining ground on charts, keeping alive the legacy of its recently deceased member Im Yoon Taek. According to local news agencies, music sites such as MelOn have received surge in downloads and listens of the band’s releases upon the news of Im Yoon Taek’s death. The singer passed away on February 11 after a battle with stomach cancer.

 

Expressions of sympathy had likewise poured from the industry, with YouTube phenomenon PSY rushing home to attend his funeral and Korea’s Blue House posting an obituary.

While searching his room, she found his passport, driver’s license, and registration card. However, unlike Secretary Wang, several viewers were able to spot the inconsistent birthdays on the IDs. His passport and registration card listed his birthday as February 18, 1984, while his driver’s license listed it as September 12, 1979.

 

In the series, Jo In Sung plays Oh Soo, a playboy and a gambler who lives a meaningless life. In order to pay off a huge debt, he pretends to be Oh Young’s (Song Hye Gyo) lost brother, who coincidentally shares the same name as him. As such, viewers were confused as to whether this inconsistency was a mistake made by the production team or an intended detail.

 

Meanwhile, “That Winter, The Wind Blows” tied for first in ratings with KBS’s “IRIS 2,” recording 12.4% (AGB Nielsen).

Yoon Eun Hye Worries Fans with Recent Haggard Appearance

On February 15, Yoon Eun Hye uploaded a new photo of herself on her Facebook. She wrote, “Our baby manager’s paparazzi cut. It was pitch black in the car when flash! I ended up really liking the photo,” and attached her photo.

IU appointed as honorary police officer

Singer IU was appointed an honorary police officer to fight school violence.

IU made a special appearance at the National Police Agency’s police commission ceremony in Seodaemungu, Seoul on the 15th. The singer, who is known for her cute and bright image, received recognition as an honorary police officer for the ceremony and was appointed as the school violence prevention ambassador.

The event was held in part to encourage police officers and the public to report and root out school violence. Comedians Jung Tae Ho, Park Sung Kwang, Shin Bora of the Brave Guys were also made honorary officers.

In other news, IU is starring in the upcoming KBS 2TV drama ‘You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin‘ which will premiere in March after ‘My Daughter Seoyoung‘. She’s also releasing her first Japanese mini album on March 20th.

Epiphany Labs recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for something called the “onE Puck” on Kickstarter. At first glance it appears to be nothing but a futuristic looking coaster, but what’s this? A USB port on the side! Simply plug in your compatible charger and place a hot (or cold) beverage on the coaster, and it will charge your phone. Seriously.

Although it seems incredibly high tech, the genius that makes the onE Puck work was actually first conceived in 1816. The Puck uses something called a “stirling engine” which draws power from heat disparities, such as a hot or cold drink, a candle, ice, etc. The Puck has two sides, one red, one blue.

 

Place a hot drink on the red side, or a cold drink on the blue side, and the heat disparity will provide enough power to the stirling engine to fully charge your cell phone battery.

 

The onE Puck is compatible with all iPhones, iPods, Androids, and pretty much any device that uses a USB charger drawing 1000 mA or less. While the immediate effect will be to change phone charging forever, Epiphany Labs has much bigger plans for this gadget.

Purplay’s agency addresses choreography plagiarism issue

Word has reached Korea about rookie group Purplay‘s alleged choreography plagiarism, and the group’s agency has finally addressed the issue.

 

To recap, the girl group unveiled a video teaser for their debut single “Love and Remember“, only to gain criticism from overseas fans who recognized the choreography sequences to be originally from America’s Best Dance Crew‘s former champions, I.aM.mE.

 

The I.aM.mE crew members also expressed their frustration through Twitter as well as on Purplay’s YouTube channel, asking to be at least credited and acknowledged, stating that the entire dubstep segment was actually theirs.

 

If you recently checked, the description for the full music video has recently been updated to include that the I.aM.mE crew worked with Purplay to create the choreography. Fans have taken notice, and have been wondering what led to the change.

 

Well it turns out, the word has spread to Korea, and Purplay’s agency was contacted for a statement. The agency commented, “After hearing netizens point out this matter, we are in the process of taking the appropriate steps to resolve [the issue].”

On the first episode of SBS’s That Winter, The Wind Blows which aired on the afternoon of February 13, the heritor of a major company Oh Young(played by Song Hye Kyo) putting on her lipstick attracted attention.

Will Kim Bum’s new movie let him shake hands with 672 people?

 

On February 14, a promotional event for a new movie Psychometry, starring Kim Bum and Kim Kang Woo, was held at Uniqlo AX Hall in Seoul. The paranormal term psychometry is a psychic ability to read an object’s past through touch, and this movie is about a suspect (played by Kim Bum) who uses his such ability to find the real criminal who has kidnapped a little girl.

 

At this event, the clever actor promised, “I can’t read your past by touching you in real life. However, if we get more than 6.72 million viewers, I will go to Myeongdong and shake hands with 672 people.” He then added, “Another thing I will do is to make a sequel of the movie. The producers agree with me on this.”

Yoo Seung Ho will narrate one more documentary before he goes to the army

Actor Yoo Seung Ho has recently named KBS’s documentary Homo Academicus to be his final work before he goes to the army for approximately two years. The soon-to-be soldier will narrate this ambitious project of KBS and donate the entire amount of money he makes to a charity. He says, “I already feel attached to this project, as this is my last work before I leave to serve in the military.” For those of you who are not familiar with the military duty, it is mandatory for all healthy young men to serve in the military for about two years in Korea.

Homo Academicus challenges to find the best studying method with the help of four Harvard students and also tries to find the relationship between studying and career success. It also looks at cultural differences that different studying methods might create. The first of its four episodes will air in March.

On February 13, Chansung celebrated his 23rd birthday with 10,000 fans at 2PM‘s Budokan concert.

Park Si Yeon and Hyun Young Deny Propofol Abuse

 

Currently, two female celebrities Park Si Yeon and Hyun Young were investigated by prosecutors because of the suspicion of misusing propofol. (Propofol is a prescription drug that causes the person using it to relax or sleep. It is used as an anesthetic)

 

Both Park Si Yeon and Hyun Young have made official statements denying that they have illegally used propofol. Both celebrities have acknowledged that they have used the drug. (Since February 2011 propofol was designated in South Korea as a type of “psychotropic drug”)

 

Park Si Yeon’s agency Eyagi-Entertainment released an official press release on February 13. The agency stated that she was merely receiving treatment for back pain and was not using propofol illegally.

 

Eyagi-Entertainment stated, “Park Si Yeon was injured because of the action scenes in ‘Marine Boy’ and ‘Dachimawa Lee.’ She injured her back as a result.”

 

Hyun Young’s agency Koen Stars released a similar statement that she had used propofol because of treatment and was not using it illegally.

 

Koen Stars stated, “Because she is a female celebrity, she can’t help but focus on her beauty. That is why she met with a doctor and had received authorization for her prescription and had visited a hospital because of treatment.”

 

The issue of propofol abuse among celebrities came to the forefront after the celebrity Amy was charged for propofol abuse in South Korea back in December 2012.

You know you’re a famous singer if North Korean citizens risk their lives to watch your music video in secret!
On February 13, an online community forum posted several screen captures of a video inside a house of North Korean citizens where the PSY‘s “Gangnam Style” music video is played on the television screen.

The screen captures reveal framed pictures of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jung Eun on a wall. It’s been noted that the two figures huddled underneath a blanket were moving their shoulders along to the addicting beat.

 

Netizens who saw the screen captures and video commented, “It looks like ‘Gangnam Style’ is popular in North Korea. You have to reach at least this many people to be a real world star,” “To think that they’re enjoying ‘Gangnam Style’ in the middle of experimenting nuclear tests, I feel a bit choked up,” “They must be high up like Kim Jung Eun to have access to this kind of content.”

Actor Park Hae Jin has been cast in the lead role in the upcoming Chinese Drama “Far Away Love.”

 

Park Hae Jin has been receiving numerous love calls from China due to his previous success in Chinese dramas. His Chinese debut drama, “Duo Duo’s Marriage,” has in the past achieved 100 million views on LeTV within its first five days of broadcast, and over 250 million views to present.

SHINee Reveals Their Hopes, Dreams and Rankings of Best Looking Member!

As previously announced before, SHINee held a special preview for their upcoming third album on February 14 called “SHINee Music Spoiler.”

 

At the event SHINee said, “We have been doing some last minute work on our third full album. Our members have been working hard together in preparation.”

 

They explained how they worked together on this album. “The members made a lot of input towards the album. We think it will reflect how much we know about each other. As we kept in mind our individual strengths and personalities, we had fun working on our parts. while we worked we talked about a lot of things including our company.”

 

During this event the members were also able to answer fan questions. For one of the questions, Onew ranked the members according to who was the most handsome. He gave first place to Minho and then picked himself as second. Third went to Jonghyun, fourth to Taemin, and Key was last.

 

The members also had a chance to talk about their individual hopes and dreams. Taemin said, “My dream is to just live happily without regrets.”

 

Key had similar dreams. “I just want to live well. Rather than materialistic things, I just want to live a happy and fun life.”

 

For Jonghyun, “My dream is music. Through music I want to tell stories and empathize with many people. I’m going to continue [in music] with a learning mindset.”

 

Lastly Minho revealed his dreams. “I would like to continue doing music even in the distant future.”

Lim Yoon Taek’s wife bids farewell to her late husband

Ulala Session‘s Lim Yoon Taek‘s wife Lee Hae Rim expressed her feelings through a touching farewell message to her late husband on Valentine’s Day.

Lee Hae Rim posted on her Twitter on the 14th, “I think I can send him off with a happy heart now. He is a person who showed everything a human being can do… I, the wife of an awesome man, am very happy even in this moment. We will meet again, so wait a little. I love you. I love you, I love you. It seems it’s now time for you to say goodbye to this world. Although it is painful to let you go, I am comforted at the thought that I will be sending you to God. As mentioned earlier, Lim Yoon Taek passed away on the 11th after a long battle with cancer. Despite his illness, he continued to do what he loved, performing lively, upbeat music for the audience and bringing others enjoyment.

CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa Meets His Ideal Girl

As previously reported, the boys of CNBlue were selected as new endorsement models for sportswear Prospecs W with Olympic Champion Kim Yuna. In a past interview, Jung Yong Hwa has revealed that the renowned figure skater was his type several times – most recently on yesterday’s episode of tvN’s “Taxi.” As such, many fans have expressed their interest in this new pairing.

 

On February 13, Prospecs W unveiled a new video of Jung Yong Hwa and Kim Yuna as they were in the middle of their poster shoot. Whenever the two made eye contact, they would bashfully look the other way before bursting into laughter.
