SISTAR, miss A, SECRET, After School and more to possibly compete in cheerleading special

To celebrate this year's World Cup, which will take place in Brazil starting in June, MBC will be having a 'Idol Futsal Championship' special in which male idols will be competing in futsal, a variant of soccer on a smaller playing field, while the female idols may possibly be competing in cheerleading.

JoyNews24 reported that the cheerleading championship will include AoA, Ladies' Code, Nine Muses, Jewelry, miss A's Jia and Min, Sunmi, SISTAR's Soyu, SECRET, Hello Venus, After School, BESTie, Rainbow, Dal Shabet, and TINT.

One broadcasting rep revealed, "The idol futsal competition and girl group's cheerleading face off will happen together.  The girl groups are diligently preparing for cheerleading.  They will be creating a different, fun spectacle from the idol futsal competition."

The program rep said, "We are still tuning up the detailed content and participants in relation to the program as there is still a lot of broadcasting and recording time left."

However, a rep from MBC told OSEN on May 8, "It's true that we were going to prepare for the girl group's cheerleading championship, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.  We are going to do the 'World Cup Special Futsal Championship' as planned, though."

This whole program had a chance of being canceled in light of the tragic ferry accident, but it was ultimately decided to continue as planned.  However, the cheerleading portion seems to be up in the air still.  Regardless, the special will begin filming at the end of May and broadcast before the World Cup opening in June.

Kim Heechul Praises Self for “Performance of a Lifetime” in “Grandpas Over Flowers”

Grandpas Over Flowers

If there’s one thing Kim Heechul is best known for, it’s being true to himself.

So when he praised himself saying there’s always been rumors about him being respectful, he probably was telling the truth.

At the production presentation of the tvN show, “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit,” held in the morning of May 7 at the National Press Club, Gwanghwamun Press Center, the singer-host-actor shared his thoughts regarding acting alongside veteran actors Lee Soon Jae, Byun Hee Bong, and Jang Gwang.

“I spoke casually to the elders and acted like a rash person. I showed the performance of a lifetime,” said Kim Heechul.

Frank and with a no-nonsense personality, Kim Heechul was quick to admit that it didn’t come easy for him. “All my life, I’ve been rumored to be very respectful that’s why speaking in casual tone to the elders and acting the way I did to them required great talent in acting for me.”

“It’s a good thing that they (veteran actors) helped me by replying with adlibs. Sir Jang Gwang told me, ‘Speak casually, I’m your junior in the industry anyway’,” revealed Kim Heechul.

In “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit,” Kim Heechul plays the role of an investigator in the Special Investigations Unit together with Lee Soon Jae, Byun Hee Bong, and Jang Gwang who all have suddenly transformed into 70-year-old elders. The new comedy noir will show the struggle of the elders to rejuvenate and gain back their original elite police physique back when they were in their 20s.

Catch Heechul’s “performance of a lifetime” in “Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit“ starting May 9, 9:50 p.m. (KST) at the cable channel tvN.

Ga In’s Agency Confirms Brown Eyed Girls Star Is Dating Actor Joo Ji Hoon

Ga In’s Agency Confirms Brown Eyed Girls Star Is Dating Actor Joo Ji Hoon

Brown Eyed Girls member Ga In and actor Joo Ji Hoon are officially a couple, according to APOP Entertainment, the singer’s agency. Rumors had been circulating about a possible romantic link between the two stars since Joo Ji Hoon starred in the video for Gain’s solo single “Fxxk U,”  from the mini-album “Truth or Dare” earlier this year.

The actor had never appeared in a music video before, and his sudden cameo sparked great curiosity among fans of both stars. Indeed, some of the scenes in the video were particularly steamy, leading some to speculate that the chemistry between the two was not purely fictional.

According to Gain’s media representative, quoted in a story reported by MyDaily, the pair have been close friends for some time, but a romantic bond has formed between them “in the past one or two months.”

The representative explained that the reason that the news was not released sooner was that the couple felt the time was not right. The spokesperson said, “With so many people still grieving the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster, we didn’t want to make an announcement of this sort. It’s a very personal matter.”

Yonhap News also reported that spokesperson from the agency had said, “They started to get to know each other a lot better after the music video was shot. They became very close and eventually started dating.”
