Lee Jung Wants to Date Park Bo Young

Lee Jung Wants to Date Park Bo Young

Probably not as direct as Ji Hyun Woo’s shocking confession to Yoo In Na at their fan meeting last year, but it’s still quite a daring move to ask someone out through the media. What if she says no?

Lee Jung appeared on the latest episode of MBC QueeN’s music talk show “Concert QueeN” where he showed off his smooth voice singing ballads as well as opened up about his thoughts on relationships.

MC Ju Yong Hoon revealed that Lee Jung previously described his ideal girl on a television show. He would like the girl to be family-centered and gentle. The MC asked him if he has someone in mind and Lee Jung replied, “Park Bo Young” and received big cheers from the audience.

Usually, celebrities will move on to the next topic, but he took the opportunity to express his wishes. The MC asked him, “For 2013, what kind of article do you want to see on the news?” Lee Jung replied, “Lee Jung and Park Bo Young in an electrifying relationship.” He humorously went on, “Park Bo Young denies the relationship,” “Lee Jung’s side acknowledges,” “Park Bo Young says Lee Jung is nothing more than an ‘oppa’ and nothing less.”

This episode of “Concert QueeN” will be broadcasted on February 7 at 11pm (KST).

Korea University Medical Center revealed, “24-year-old Somo Ehnang is a burn victim patient who couldn’t close her eyes and move her neck properly for the past 12 years. She wasn’t able to fully complete treatment in Myanmar, so she arrived in Korea on January 12th to receive treatment. She underwent her third round of surgery and will receive her fourth on the 7th. The surgery and hospital fees usually cost around 100 million won (~$92,000 USD), but the Korea University Medical Center generously lowered the fees to 30 million won (~$28,000 USD), and Han Hye Jin personally offered to cover the bill.”

Her agency NamooActors stated, “As a World Vision ambassador, she conducted charity work in Tanzania this past year, but we were unaware of this activity. She usually does good deeds without the agency knowing, so there have been instances when we heard about it later from other sources.”

The photos were actually seemed a bit similar, especially considering J.Y. Park’s nickname “gorilla.”

[Outside Seoul] Oh (Flower) Boy!: The tvN Dramas

[Outside Seoul] Oh (Flower) Boy!: The tvN Dramas
With a premise so shallow and mercenary—young women will go out of their way to watch cute guys, dontchya know—who would have guessed that there would be more to tvN’s Oh Boy! series of dramas than broad comedy and wish-fullfilment girl porn? (Not that there would have been anything wrong with that, necessarily.)

But it turns out that each of this series’ three installments has a lot more to offer—edgy production values, nuanced characters, and real insight into what it means to be young and searching for a future in today’s world.

So let’s take a moment to appreciate the most stunning recent development in drama land: every single one of tvN’s Oh boy! shows is actually good.

1. FLOWER BOY RAMYUN SHOPOctober 31, 2011 to December 20, 2011

The concept: Pretty boys work together at a family-owned restaurant that specializes in ramyun.

What it really is: A spoofy, silly mix of drama types—equal parts school show, food porn, noona romance, cohabitation farce, and spoiled chaebol shenanigans. Our heroine starts off as a teacher dealing with a particularly difficult student—who just happens to be the leading man, a devilish scamp who’s too pretty for his own good (and hers). Eventually she finds herself helping to run her family’s ramyun shop, along with a cadre of handsome young men.

The flower of my heart: Lee Ki Woo’s gentle giant Pillar, who fills the screen with sweet-hearted, narcoleptic charm. The male lead is a bit too groomed even for a flower boy (and appears to be eyebrowless, thanks to a haircut so trendy it’s already dated less than a year after the show finale).

The standout: Ba Wool, the tough high-school student with a heart of gold. His nickname is “Crazy Rooster.” Need I say more?

What it’s lacking: This show isn’t as good with the darker emotions as it is with the zany laughs, which makes it feel shallow to some viewers.

What it has that the others don’t: Hot, hot kisses. (See above.)

2. SHUT UP: FLOWER BOY BAND January 30, 2012 to March 20, 2012

The concept: Pretty boys in a rock band called, appropriately enough, Eye Candy.

What it really is: A coming of age story with a gritty, indie-rock vibe that focuses on a group of rebellious high school boys hungry to become rock stars. Along the way, they fight against the world, against each other, and against growing up, all the while trying to become the men they want to be.

The flower of my heart: Drummer Jang Do Il. This guy may not be much of an actor, but he sure is a looker—the only thing prettier than his scowl is his smile.

The standout: Byung Hee, the charismatic, slightly insane band leader the rest of the show’s characters orbit around, even long after he’s gone.

What it’s lacking: If you’re in it for the romance alone, this may not be the show for you. While there is a love story, the real heart of SUFBB is the tender (but realistically rough-and-tumble) bromance between the members of Eye Candy.

What it has that the others don’t: The gritty, working-class universe that surrounds the story and gives way to an insider peek into the world of Kpop hopefuls.

3. FLOWER BY NEXT DOORJanuary 7, 2013 to February 26, 2013 (episodes 9 and 10 air this week)

The concept: A girl loner lives in a neighborhood chock full of flower boys. (Some people have all the luck.)

What it really is: A surprisingly moving, community-minded character study that centers on one of Kdrama’s most original female leads—a wounded, socially awkward editor who prefers spending time in her apartment to being out in the world. Even the extreme proximity of unimaginably hot flower boys can’t lure her out, until quirky Enrique Geum emigrates from Spain to take up residence her heart.

The flower of my heart: Puppyish Enrique, who practically vibrates with energy and guileless good will. If you were to add up the cuteness of every single baby animal alive on the planet at any given moment, the total would still be several hundred ducklings (and at least one Korean-speaking elephant) shy of his massive appeal.

The standout: The over-worked, over-opinionated editor of Jin Rak’s webtoon, who has stolen every scene she’s been in with her exasperated commentary.

What it’s lacking: There are rumblings that some viewers think the plot is moving too slowly, and that the ensemble cast is too jam-packed to allow satisfying development for all the characters. (While there’s probably truth to both these complaints, at its midpoint I think Flower Boy Next Door’s many charms more than offset its few failings.)

What it has that the others don’t: An outsider’s view of the world, thanks to the characters of Enrique (who’s just moved to Korea) and Dok Mi (who’s actually a citizen of her head more than she’s a citizen any country).

4. NEXT, PLEASE?

According to rumors, that the next installment in the Oh Boy! series will be called Flower Boy Agency and likely share a theme with the 2010 movie Cyrano Agency, which detailed the workings of a matchmaking organization that used hands-on strategies to make people fall in love. (For more, see the January 30th update at The Vault of Doom.)

To date, the Oh Boy! shows are drawn from popular drama genres: foodie stories, music-centered plots, and workplace romance. In light of the recent trends, maybe future installments will have a supernatural angle? A flower-boy sageuk would be fun, too, although Sungkyunkwan Scandal has that pretty much covered. And you can’t go wrong with stories about girls pretending to be boys, which would in this case would provide a fun opportunity to crack jokes about how high-maintenance flower boys are, even compared to girlie girls.

What other drama themes do you think are ready for an infusion of flower boys?

‘Hello’ participant criticized for his attitude towards INFINITE’s Hoya

A few days ago, we reported that INFINITE‘s Hoya was praised as a ‘problem solver’ on the show ‘Hello‘ after he helped solve the speech problem of a participant.

However, it seems rather than being happy about the potential solution to his problem, the participant was rather annoyed with Hoya for solving his problem and taking away the chance of being named the #1 concern for the week (there are monetary and other prizes awarded to those who are voted as having the biggest concern).

With Hoya pointing out a solution before the voting started, the participant only earned 43 votes. After the show aired, the participant allegedly wrote on his KakaoStory app, “The mood seemed as if I might be able to win #1, so I even cried [during the show], but Hoya messed it up. Hoya son of a b*tch”.

An individual who claims to be an acquaintance of the participant on the show, commented, “I’m an acquaintance, and he really can’t pronounce things, but he thinks it’s fun. He doesn’t even think to try to fix it. He doesn’t even attend class often.”

Hearing about this, criticisms flowed in from netizens and viewers who watched the show, especially since the participant had revealed that his dream was to be a Korean language teacher. Comments read along the lines of, “He sold his conscience for 1 million KRW (~ 1,000 USD),” “Poor Hoya…”, and “[Hoya] sympathized with him even more so and helped solve his problem because he had a similar experience and this is what he gets…”

As mentioned previously, the singer sold out all 120,000 copies of his first batch, and requests for a second batch had to be put in with the success of ‘I’, that topped Hanteo as well as overseas charts.

C-JeS commented, “The repackaged album will contain two more songs in addition to the 5 original tracks, including the previously unreleased dance track ‘Only Love’, and a limited edition photo will also be included.”

“Only Love” is Jaejoong’s self-composed song of the dance genre, and was first performed at his recent ‘Your, My and Mine‘ concert.

‘Y’ will be released on February 26th, and will go on pre-sale starting on the 13th. The singer will be embarking on an Asia tour along with the release of the repackaged album as well, so it seems fans have a lot to look forward to from the singer!
