“Superman Returns” Lee Hwi Jae Donates 100 Million Won to Ferry Tragedy Victims

Entertainer Lee Hwi Jae has donated one hundred million won (~ 100,000 USD) to the families affected by the Sewol ferry disaster.

On April 28, a representative of the charity Community Chest of Korea revealed to Daily Sports, “Lee Hwi Jae donated 100 million won through Community Chest on April 26 in the name of their whole family including his wife Moon Jung Won and their twin sons Seo Joon and Seo Un.” The amount will be used to help fund the relief efforts and provide the families at the disaster location with daily necessities.

Lee Hwi Jae has been a loved entertainer and MC since his debut in 1992. While he gained immerse popularity at the time thanks to his good looks, he has now caught the public’s interest as the father of adorable twin boys and the husband of a beautiful wife on MBC’s Sunday variety program “Superman Returns.”

Yoon Shi Yoon Quietly Begins Military Service in the Marines

It  has come as a surprise to many as it is being belatedly reported that actor Yoon Shi Yoon started his mandatory military service today without any fanfare or previous press notification.

Actor Yoon Shi Yoon (born 1986), most recently from the KBS drama “Prime Minister and I,” reported for duty today, April 28, 1:50 PM, at the Marine Corps boot camp in Poyang. He will complete seven weeks of training there and then be officially placed to fulfill his two year military duty.  to According to the actor’s agency, Yoon Shi Yoon wanted to quietly enter the base and asked the company to not let any outsiders know before he left. 

Yoon Shi Yoon commented through his agency, “Every male goes to the military, and I didn’t want to cause any disturbance for the other soldiers. I wanted to perform my national duty quietly.”

We wish Yoon Shi Yoon well and look forward to the day he returns!

Cable TV Dramas “Secret Love Affair” and “Potato Star” Resume Airing Today

Fans of tvN’s daily sitcom “Potato Star” and the JTBC series “Secret Love Affair” can finally get back on track to what has been happening with their favorite characters as the programs return to normal programming on cable TV starting this week.

“Potato Star,” which has been off the air since April 17, will resume airing today, April 28, while “Secret Love Affair,” will resume broadcast with its 11th and 12th episode today and tomorrow, (April 28 and 29) respectively. 

Major television networks KBS, SBS, and MBC are resuming with their regular programming from this week as well.

Earlier, various television networks including tvN and CJ E&M affiliate JTBC canceled the airing of dramas, variety programs, as well as educational programs since April 16 to show respect for the victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy and to make way for special news programs.

tvN also shows its sensitivity to the issue, announcing that they will remove the laughing sound effects in “Potato Star” and proceed with editing the show’s contents with caution.

On April 16, the Sewol Ferry traveling from Incheon to Jeju Island, carrying  476 people, mostly secondary (middle) school students from Danwon High School (Ansan City), capsized for reasons still unknown to the public. As of April 26, a total of 187 deaths have been confirmed, 174 people have been rescued, and 115 people are still missing.
