MC Shindong asked the Girls’ Generation members, “Doesn’t that frustrate you?“, bringing up all of the talk of plastic surgery related to the girls. Tiffany responded, “We go out to the airport once a week, so pictures of us are taken at least once a week. Our concept changes frequently. If our hairstyles change, or we gain or lose some weight, the topic always comes up, things like ‘Their faces changed’, even if we had pictures of us taken the week before…

Tak Jae Hoon stated, “Girls’ faces seem to change every day“, to which Taeyeon replied, “Make-up is truly amazing.” The girls revealed that they have become pretty used to the rumors now, commenting, “So now it’s just whatever…“, showing that they don’t really concern themselves about it anymore.

Hoya solves the problem of a participant on ‘Hello’

INFINITE‘s Hoya was praised by the MCs as well as the guests as he proposed a solution to a participant’s speech problems, earning the nickname of ‘problem solver’ on the show ‘Hello‘.

On the February 4th’s episode, one of the participants revealed his struggle with a speech problem that didn’t allow him to say ‘I love you’ (saranghae – 사랑해) to his girlfriend, and may potentially cause him to give up his dream to become a Korean language teacher. The participant revealed that he has a problem with pronouncing the letter ‘ㄹ’, which is often described as a sound between ‘r’ and ‘l’. Although he’s able to pronounce it fine when the word starts with the letter, he is unable to say it properly when it comes in the middle of the word, even despite having gotten surgery on his tongue in attempts to fix the issue.

Due to his problem he revealed that he is also unable to properly say the name of his favorite idol, KARA‘s Hara, for it sounds like ‘KAYAs Haya’ when he says it.

In response, Hoya revealed his own experience as a trainee, when he had not been able to pronounce the letter ‘ã……’ (which sounds like the sound of ‘s’) properly, especially due to his dialect, and practiced consistently to prevent himself from getting cut from the group.

While the set started to cast their votes about whether they thought the participant’s concern was something to really worry about, Hoya commented, “It’s not a problem in my opinion. If you try hard enough, you can fix it. I think if you put a bit of a pause in between the syllables when you talk, you’ll be able to do it since you said you have no problems with pronouncing the letter when it comes at the beginning of a word.”

The guest immediately tried out Hoya’s idea, and said ‘saranghae’ by putting a bit of a pause in between ‘sa’ and ‘ranghae’, and found out that he could pronounce the word without having it sound like ‘sayanghae’. When he asked cautiously, “Wouldn’t this be hard to do during everyday conversation?“, Hoya confidently advised that with practice, his pauses in between would get shorter. With his simple, yet completely effective solution, Hoya gained the applause of everyone on set with the MCs yelling out, “Wow, Hoya has solved his problem!”, “Hoya is a problem solver!”

The ‘German Asian Music Charts’ are determined by votes from German fans. B.A.P has been on the chart starting with their debut single “Warrior“, and had even won the Rookie Award and Song of the Year from the charts.

Labelmate SECRET also set a record for themselves by becoming #1 on the January charts with “Talk That“. They are the first female artist to ever rank #1 on the charts.

B.A.P has had an incredibly successful debut year in 2012, and they will be continuing their takeover, starting with the release of a teaser for their new song. The teaser is scheduled for release at noon KST on the 5th

Tiffany revealed to be the biggest eater in Girls’ Generation

The ladies of Girls’ Generation are known for having a strict diet but Tiffany revealed her love of eating on the February 4th episode of Mnet‘s ‘Beatles Code‘.

On the show, Tiffany, Yuri, Taeyeon, Seohyun, and singer Ha Chun Hwa were guests and talked about their various similarities, differences, and experiences. During one segment, the subject of eating before a performance was brought up. While most female groups avoid eating before a performance due to strict diets, Tiffany revealed, “There’s a big difference (in the performance) if we eat or not before we go on stage, so now all the members make sure to eat before.

MC Tak Jae Hoon asked, “Who eats the most out of all the members?” and Tiffany admitted, “If I see something I want to eat, I absolutely have to eat it“, causing the other members to laugh.

[Review][Single] SISTAR19 – “Gone Not Around Any Longer”

I generally review all the songs from any K-Pop release, but today I am breaking this trend with SISTAR19′s latest release ‘Gone Not Around Any Longer‘. First, if we take away the Intro, re-release of “Ma Boy“, and instrumental version of the title track, we are only left with one other track worth reviewing. Second, most people tend to care solely about the title song. But most importantly, I feel there is more than enough to be said about the title track “Gone Not Around Any Longer“, so I feel it will be best served to concentrate my efforts to this one track.

For my review of the Brave Brothers‘ helmed production, “Gone Not Around Any Longer“, I will frame it in the style of my self-created theory entitled: Three Easy Steps to Destroy a Perfectly Good Song.

Step #1: Add a poor quality synthesizer line that doesn’t sync in any way with the rest of the song.
Seriously, I’m not even sure what the producers here were thinking with this one. I assume it’s supposed to be a saxophone of some kind, which I inherently have nothing against: saxophones samples/synths have worked perfectly well in other K-Pop songs, the first example off the top of my head being 4Minute’sVolume Up“. At least tease us and make it sound like a saxophone, not some 32-bit-esque patch reminiscent of a bad Super Nintendo game. If the sound itself wasn’t bad enough, its joyous melody line, rhythmic friction, and poor leveling render the vocal lines to such a level that I didn’t think was possible, interfering with the overall piece in every way imaginable. I get that there might be some who respond to this technique as representing the frustrated, irritated feeling of reminiscing over a lost love, but I’m not buying this whatsoever. I call foul play on poor, rushed editing.

Step #2: Create a sub-unit duet, but only allow one singer to sing.
On a track with about a minute and half of actual singing with lyrics, you would expect at least a somewhat balanced distribution between a sub unit of just two members. It’s a crime that the producers offered a mere 15 seconds to Bora’s one verse, while the second part of her rap was overdubbed with Hyorin singing the same words. I get the fact that Hyorin may not be big enough of a name to allow her to go alone quite yet without the SISTAR name attached to her, thus needing her group mate adjoined to her hip. If the producers aren’t willing to let Bora shine, just give Hyorin the opportunity to go solo and I’m sure she’ll have as flourishing career that a K-Pop female idol can have.

Step #3: Do not give your most talented singer a chance to strut her stuff.
In the mainstream pop canon, slow tempo songs are generally used primarily to demonstrate vocal skills. Hyorin is truly given one opportunity to demonstrate any vocal prowess outside of light inflections, and I wonder what the producers heard that they decided to give this particular cut the green light. At the end, Hyorin ascends a scale interrupted by heavily aspirated and forgettable high note wail. It sounds like Hyorin is ultimately struggling to even reach a note that she is very well capable of reaching. Again, I get that someone could contextualize this as it represents her struggling with the memory of her lost love, but again I’m not buying it. Even if this were the case, Hyorin falls short of her expected capability.

Should the producers have corrected these wrongs, I think this would have been an incredibly strong track. As demonstrated with their mega-hit “Alone“, the makeup of SISTAR allows for sensual, down-tempo songs to actually be a strength of theirs. I’m especially fond of the song arrangement in this case, especially the ending. I found the vocal-less piano break that lead to the minimalist, fragmented ending “chorus” tastefully arranged to fully represent the context of the lyrics. The song melody itself is approachable, yet sensual and catchy at the same time: I found myself humming it the next day walking the streets of my city.

Gone Not Around Any Longer” could have easily been another strong member in the lineup of the SISTAR single canon, but I can’t overlook the blatant and evident downfalls. What would have been a well done song turns into one of the more head-scratching releases thus far in 2013—and boy has there been some head scratching, to say the least. I am hoping this trend of underachieving duo sub-units (see 2Yoon’s24/7“) will turn for the better, but I’m not overly optimistic considering what has been churned out to date. Nonetheless, I don’t necessarily believe this will undermine SISTAR‘s bright future in anyway, and I anticipate their next release will be more than we could hope for.

B1A4′s Baro, Jinyoung, and Sandeul to MC ‘Show! Music Core’ this week

B1A4‘s Baro, Jinyoung, and Sandeul will be the MCs for the February 9th episode of ‘Show! Music Core‘.

Although Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun are the usual MCs for the show, B1A4‘s official website lists the trio as the MCs for this week.

All of the boys have been active in variety shows lately, appearing in shows such as ‘Strong Heart‘ and ‘Three Fools‘ after their promotions for “Tried to Walk” ended. Even though the boys have been on plenty of variety shows before, this will be their first time MCing for a big music show program. However, they’re known for their quirkiness and hyperactivity, so fans are looking forward to seeing the trio on the show.

Se7en tweets a photo of Daesung being a fanboy

Se7en tweeted an image of his biggest fan.

Se7en recently took to his Twitter and shared screenshots from his Japanese concert DVD along with the words, “Daesung made an adorable appearance on the Japanese concert DVD!!! Daesung, thanks, but you don’t get an appearance fee for being on here because hyung almost cracked up while I was singing this when I saw you. Ke.

The screenshots show an overenthusiastic Daesung standing along with Se7en’s fans as a fanboy, cheering Se7en on just as hard and waving his lightstick around. Even though Se7en was surprised at Daesung’s appearance, he managed to calm himself back down and sing again.

Daesung’s obvious excitement while attending his sunbae‘s concert caused fans to smile at the friendship between the two. Fans commented, “Daesung looks like a real fan“, “People who went to that concert got to see Daesung and Se7en!“, and “Se7en, your biggest fan is your dongsaeng..“.
