Young mother kills baby son online

A young mother allegedly strangled her 10 month-old son to death at their home in Fujian Province. According to reports, the mother broadcast her actions on the internet.The mother, surnamed Zou, is now in police custody. Police say that Zou called the ambulance to send her son to hospital after strangling him.

When she came to the realisation that her son could not be saved, she contacted police to turn herself in.

The bizarre and harrowing incident came as a massive shock to relatives. The boy's grandmother told Dongnan Morning Post that her son and Zou were too young to get married but that they already lived together and their son was born last year. She said the young couple had a good relationship and the incident came as a shock. The young couple worked in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province and frequently left the baby boy with his grandparents in Zhangzhou, in neighbouring Fujian province. However, according to the report, about three weeks ago Zou came home and wouldn't let anyone touch the baby.

Family conflict?

A police officer involved in the case has suggested that a family conflict may have sparked the tragedy. According to the officer, Zou confessed she killed her son to get revenge on her husband and mother-in-law, as she was unhappy living with them. Zou also believed her husband didn't care about their son, and the couple apparently had an argument prior to the incident. Police sources confirmed Zou did announce on the Internet that she would kill her son and broadcast it live on QQ.com. Investigations into the incident are still being carried out.
