“Doctor Stranger” Director Explains Why He Cast Sistar’s Bora and Kang Sora

The makers of forthcoming SBS drama “Doctor Stranger” have appeared before the press in Korea, with director Jin Hyuk taking the opportunity to explain why he was so keen to cast Sistar singer Bora. 

The director admitted that he was a “big fan of Sistar” and joked that his motivation for casting the girl group rapper was somewhat “selfish.”

The drama tells the story of a skilled surgeon, played by Lee Jong Suk. After spending time in North Korea, the doctor escapes to South Korea, where he finds work at a university hospital. 

Bora is set to play a North Korean character who also finds herself working in South Korea. Her character soon takes a liking to the young doctor. 

Jin Hyuk was also complimentary about co-star Kang Sora, who will also be appearing in the drama as a doctor. He said, “I remember seeing her at an awards ceremony not so long ago and being very impressed. She can combine great femininity with boyish charm. I was delighted when she said she wanted to join the cast.” 

“Doctor Stranger” will air on Mondays and Tuesdays on SBS beginning May 5.

Yoon Shi Yoon Keeps His Promise and His Final Words Before Enlisting Are “Thank You”

Actor Yoon Shi Yoon entered the Marine Corps in secret. What was the last image of Yoon Shi Yoon entering the Marine Corps, choosing to do it silently in order to prevent any harm to other personnel entering at the same time?

Yoon Shi Yoon enlisted through the Pohang Training Center on April 28 at 1:50 PM. While there was interest from people around him about his enlistment, he told employees of his agency, “I want to go quietly.” He requested that they keep it a secret.

The employees politely rejected requests from entertainment programs and didn’t allow news about his enlistment to be known to the outside to keep their promise. That is why members from his agency accompanied him to watch him enlist.

Yoon Shi Yoon showed his will to enlist in the Marine Corps in January. Until that point, agency representatives dissuaded him from enlisting in the Marine Corps. The reason was that he is older than the average soldier, so he might end up having a hard time. However, Yoon Shi Yoon displayed his strong will and selected the Marine Corps.

On April 29, a representative of Taxi Entertainment revealed, “Yoon Shi Yoon’s will to enter to Marine Corps was strong despite the members of our agency trying to dissuade him many times. Everything proceeded at lightning speed, from the application, interview, and final admittance.”

Yoon Shi Yoon’s appearance before enlisting wasn’t different from the average soldier. He thanked each member of his agency that accompanied him one by one and quietly enlisted. An agency employee who saw off the actor at the training center said, “Shi Yoon said ‘thank you’ before enlisting. He asked, ‘Would it be okay to hug you just once?’ and we hugged. Thinking about the tight friendship between men and what they undergo together made me choke up.”

The actor that enjoyed his heyday through MBC’s “High Kick Through The Roof” and KBS’s “The King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo” had a normal enlistment. However, his will and fidelity of taking care of his fellow soldiers and agency employees over himself really stood out.

Indonesian Drama Accused of Plagiarizing “Man from the Stars,” SBS to Take Action

An Indonesian version of “Man from the Stars” has turned out to be a case of plagiarism.

A representative of SBS Contents Hub, which is responsible for managing the publication rights of “Man from the Stars,” revealed, “The drama has not been made after acquiring the legal publishing rights. It can be considered to be a plagiarized version.”

The Indonesian drama “Kau Yang Berasal Dari Bintang” has been under heat for the striking similarities between the drama and SBS’ “Man from the Stars.” According to a Chinese media outlet, the setting and story are nearly identical to “Man from the Stars.” The first episode aired on April 28 on RCTI.

“We are currently in talks with another Indonesian company regarding the official publishing rights, but this drama has begun airing. We are looking for a way to take action against the drama,” SBS continued.

“Man from the Stars” starring top stars Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun has enjoyed immense popularity all around Asia.

Joo Won confirmed for 'Nodame Cantabile' + Shim Eun Kyung in talks to join as female lead

Joo Won is now confirmed to play the male lead in the Korean version of hit manga and drama 'Nodame Cantabile'!

His agency revealed to Newsen on April 29, "Joo Won is confirmed to appear in the Korean version of Japanese hit production, 'Nodame Cantabile.'  Currently, we are in the final stages of mediation."

Meanwhile, it appears actress Shim Eun Kyung, most recently of movie 'Miss Granny,' is the candidate to play opposite him in the drama.  She received the offer and is currently reviewing it.  Her agency said, "It's true that Shim Eun Kyung received the offer to play the female lead in Korea's 'Nodame Cantabile,' but no decision has been made yet."

If she takes on the role, this will be her first return to the small screen in four years since SBS's 'Bad Guy' back in 2010.  

'Nodame Cantabile' will be set to air on KBS 2TV in October, so stay tuned for further casting details!

Henry, NS Yoon-G, Jun Hyun Moo, and more recruited for new variety game show JTBC's 'Crime Scene'

Super Junior-M's Henry has been steadily becoming one of the hottest stars of the moment with his popularity soaring to the point that he was actually revealed to be the very first guest pick by JTBC's new variety show 'Crime Scene'!

The staff stated, "We recruited [Henry] because he comes to mind as the hottest brain these days and his outstanding variety show skills made him the #1 casting candidate."

'Crime Scene' is a mystery game show in which six celebrity players become suspects in a murder case and they have to prove themselves innocent while at the same time try to solve the mystery of who killed the victim among them like the game 'Clue'.

Henry will be joining other celebrity players who have been revealed to be NS Yoon-G, announcer Park Ji Yoon, Hong Jin Ho, Im Bang Geul, and Jun Hyun Moo, who will be the player MC.

Song Seung Hun to Talk About Women and Dating as Guest on “Witch Hunt”

Actor Song Seung Hun will be making a guest appearance on JTBC’s 19+ talk show “Witch Hunt.”

A representative of JTBC confirmed the news on April 29, and revealed that the filming was currently taking place.

“Having ties with Shin Dong Yup, Song Seung Hun decided to participate in the show. The two met through MBC’s sitcom “Three Men, Three Women” in the past, and have since been close friends,” the source continued. 

“Witch Hunt” is known for its provocative topics and witty wordplay, and the guests are encouraged to be as open as possible. As Song Seung Hun is an uncommon sight on variety shows, his upcoming guest appearance is already highly anticipated, and it will be interesting to see what the actor will reveal about his knowledge on relationships and women.

The episode can be expected to air in mid-May, but due to the recent Sewol ferry tragedy, the broadcast stations have not yet confirmed all of their future schedules.

Infinite’s Woohyun and Sungyeol, 4Minute’s Jihyun Confirmed to Star in “High School”

4Minute’s Nam Jihyun has been cast alongside Infinite’s Woohyun and Sungyeol in the upcoming KBS 2TV drama “High School” (working title).

On April 29, a KBS representative told OSEN, “Woohyun and Sungyeol accepted the casting offer as the male leads after thinking it over. We are in the final stages of casting the female lead as well as the rest of the cast. Filming will start some time during the next month.

In addition, a representative of Infinite’s agency, Woollim Entertainment revealed, “We are currently adjusting their schedules. As long as there is no conflict, the casting arrangements will continue as planned.

A representative from 4Minute’s agency, Cube Entertainment also said, “Jihyun has decided to take up the offer for ‘High School.’ She will act as the female lead and will be participating in the script reading at the beginning of May.”

“High School” is a teen drama with a coming-of-age storyline revolving around love and friendship among high school students.

SHINee’s Onew Missing From Final Lineup for “Singin’ in the Rain”

Recently, the final lineup for the cast of “Singin’ in the Rain” was released. SHINee’s Onew, who had been mentioned as one of the leads in past reports, was missing from the list. The lineup for the lead role of Don Lockwood was announced as EXO’s Baekhyun, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, and TRAX’s Jay.

A production official said to SportsSeoul.com, “We’ve continuously been discussing the casting of Onew, but there are still internal things that need to be worked out. While the lineup has been released, following discussion, Onew could still join the cast.” On the inclusion of TRAX’s Jay, another official said that Jay was originally going to be a member of the cast.

“Singin’ in the Rain” is a musical adaptation of the famous 1952 film of the same name.

Also starring in the musical is Girls’ Generation’s Sunny in the role of Kathy Selden. The musical will be running from June 5 through August 3.

“Superman Returns” Lee Hwi Jae Donates 100 Million Won to Ferry Tragedy Victims

Entertainer Lee Hwi Jae has donated one hundred million won (~ 100,000 USD) to the families affected by the Sewol ferry disaster.

On April 28, a representative of the charity Community Chest of Korea revealed to Daily Sports, “Lee Hwi Jae donated 100 million won through Community Chest on April 26 in the name of their whole family including his wife Moon Jung Won and their twin sons Seo Joon and Seo Un.” The amount will be used to help fund the relief efforts and provide the families at the disaster location with daily necessities.

Lee Hwi Jae has been a loved entertainer and MC since his debut in 1992. While he gained immerse popularity at the time thanks to his good looks, he has now caught the public’s interest as the father of adorable twin boys and the husband of a beautiful wife on MBC’s Sunday variety program “Superman Returns.”

Yoon Shi Yoon Quietly Begins Military Service in the Marines

It  has come as a surprise to many as it is being belatedly reported that actor Yoon Shi Yoon started his mandatory military service today without any fanfare or previous press notification.

Actor Yoon Shi Yoon (born 1986), most recently from the KBS drama “Prime Minister and I,” reported for duty today, April 28, 1:50 PM, at the Marine Corps boot camp in Poyang. He will complete seven weeks of training there and then be officially placed to fulfill his two year military duty.  to According to the actor’s agency, Yoon Shi Yoon wanted to quietly enter the base and asked the company to not let any outsiders know before he left. 

Yoon Shi Yoon commented through his agency, “Every male goes to the military, and I didn’t want to cause any disturbance for the other soldiers. I wanted to perform my national duty quietly.”

Cable TV Dramas “Secret Love Affair” and “Potato Star” Resume Airing Today

Fans of tvN’s daily sitcom “Potato Star” and the JTBC series “Secret Love Affair” can finally get back on track to what has been happening with their favorite characters as the programs return to normal programming on cable TV starting this week.

“Potato Star,” which has been off the air since April 17, will resume airing today, April 28, while “Secret Love Affair,” will resume broadcast with its 11th and 12th episode today and tomorrow, (April 28 and 29) respectively. 

Major television networks KBS, SBS, and MBC are resuming with their regular programming from this week as well.

Earlier, various television networks including tvN and CJ E&M affiliate JTBC canceled the airing of dramas, variety programs, as well as educational programs since April 16 to show respect for the victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy and to make way for special news programs.

tvN also shows its sensitivity to the issue, announcing that they will remove the laughing sound effects in “Potato Star” and proceed with editing the show’s contents with caution.

On April 16, the Sewol Ferry traveling from Incheon to Jeju Island, carrying  476 people, mostly secondary (middle) school students from Danwon High School (Ansan City), capsized for reasons still unknown to the public. As of April 26, a total of 187 deaths have been confirmed, 174 people have been rescued, and 115 people are still missing.

On April 15 he saw that the phrase “Welcome to the Overdose Era” was trending and assumed that it had something to do with overdosing on drugs. One click for him and he quickly learned that he was wrong. “Welcome to the Overdose Era” was trending because of EXO and their upcoming comeback for “Overdose.” Tristan Maack proceeded to tweet about his misunderstanding, unaware that he had just introduced himself to the EXO fandom.

The EXO fans decided this was hilarious.

Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye Ask to Postpone Concert, Lotte Objects

“The Heirs” stars Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye have been caught in a dilemma.

Originally, the two actors were going to be attending the four-day ‘Hallyu Star Family Concert,” put on by Lotte at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium in Seoul. However, in light of recent events concerning the capsized Korean ferry, Lee Minho and Park Shin Hye, in addition to the other stars in attendance, requested that the event be postponed. Lotte objected. The shows on April 19 and 20, which are going to be for Korean fans, have already been postponed. But Lotte was firm in that the April 18 concert, which is for international fans, must remain as scheduled.

Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye have been continuously requesting for a later concert date through today (April 17), but it is likely that the concert will be held as planned. A management official of one of the other stars to attend said, “All of Korea is in a state of grievance. To hold a performance in this situation is too much. The celebrities are stepping forward and showing a proper attitude, but the businesses are firm in their stance, which puts us in an awkward position.”

On the other hand, Lotte is emphasizing that the concert attendees on April 18 are foreigners. They said that they of course cancelled the performances for April 19 and 20, to be held for Korean audiences, but it’s impossible to postpone something for which foreign fans are specifically flying in for, as they will not be able to attend a postponed concert. Going further than simple compensation for the international fans, Lotte’s company image is on the line, as well. Lotte is even more so not backing down, as Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye are the main stars for the concert, having gained huge popularity overseas with their recent drama, “The Heirs.”

One official stated, “It’s not that we don’t understand Lotte’s side of the situation. But both sides have a point, and accordingly, it will require careful action.”

All Comebacks Delayed (Block B, T-ara’s Jiyeon, G.NA, Fiestar, Lena Park, Junggigo) Due to Ferry Tragedy

Due to the ferry tragedy that occurred on April 16, many comebacks, debuts, and album releases planned for this week and next have been delayed. Artists Block B, T-ara’s Jiyeon, G.NA, Fiestar, Lena Park, and Junggigo have officially announced that their various music releases have been pushed back indefinitely out of respect for the tragedy that has gripped the nation and its citizens. 

Block B’s agency, Seven Seasons, announced through its official Twitter account that “Block B’s new single release has been delayed.” It explained, “We have judged that the current situation and the members’ hearts do not fit the fun atmosphere of  their comeback title track ‘Jackpot,‘ so we have decided to push back the single release.” 

Block B had planned to release the “Jackpot” single later today after releasing the music video on April 15. As Mnet’s “M!Countdown” today has also been cancelled, Block B will not be holding their comeback performance today on the show. Block B’s reality TV show, “5 Minutes Before Chaos,” also set to be aired today, is also cancelled. There is no specific news yet on Block B’s new comeback dates.

Singer Lena Park’s (Park Jung Hyun) agency, Blue Print Music, announced that her comeback will be delayed, as well. Her new mini album “Syncrofusion” was supposed to be released on April 18, but due to the ferry tragedy, the release date has been delayed indefinitely.

Girl group Fiestar’s agency, Collabodadi, stated that the girl group’s new single release of “One More” will be delayed until mid-May. Their comeback was originally scheduled for April 25, but it has been pushed back after the agency judged it is not the right time for album promotions when there is a national tragedy ongoing.

Singer Junggigo’s comeback has also been delayed. His new single, “Want U,” in collaboration with rapper Beenzino was supposed to be released today, but the release has been pushed back indefinitely.

Solo female artist G.NA also planned to release her music video teaser today for her new single, “Pretty Lingerie,” but will not do so out of respect for the current situation.

T-ara’s Jiyeon has also pushed back her solo debut. She was supposed to release a music video teaser for her first solo album “Never Ever” on April 18, but this has been pushed back indefinitely, as well.

On April 16, a ferry traveling from Incheon to Jeju Island and carrying 475 passengers sank off the coast of Jindo. Over 300 of the passengers were students from Danwon High School in Ansan, taking a school trip. As of 11AM KST on April 17, nine passengers are reported dead with 179 rescued and 287 still missing.

EXO Delays Comeback Due to Ferry Tragedy

Boy group, EXO, is delaying its comeback due to the Sewol Ferry tragedy that took place in Korea on April 16.

SM Entertainment announced on April 18 through EXO’s official homepage that the release of the group’s new mini album, which was originally scheduled for April 21, has been postponed.

The agency stated, “After discussing with the EXO members regarding the release of their new album and their promotion activities in Korea, we have decided to postpone the release of their new mini album “Overdose,” which was originally scheduled to release on April 21.”

The statement continued, “The decision has been made to offer our condolences to the victims and our hopes and wishes that the missing persons will return back safely. We ask the fans who have been waiting for the release of the album for their understanding and patience.”

SM Entertainment concluded their statement saying, “We thank you for all of the interest you have given towards ‘Overdose,’ and we will notify you as soon as the new release date is confirmed.”

Lee Joon Used to Be a Wig Model Before His Debut?

Lee Joon of MBLAQ recently revealed that he used to be a model in the past, and not just any model, but a wig model.

On the April 15 episode of MNet’s “Beatles Code 3D,” the photos of Lee Joon modeling were unveiled by the MCs.

MC Shindong asked the guests, “Is there someone who has worked since a young age?” and Lee Joon was the first brave one to answer, “I appeared on the movie ‘Ninja Assassin‘ before my debut.”

When asked to reveal what he did before that, the idol confessed, “Stuff like home shopping… I even worked as a fitting model for wigs.” Hearing this, Shindong grabbed photos proving this and revealed old pictures of Lee Joon showcasing a variety of wigs. 

Even though the photos are taken before his debut, his good looks and charming smile look exactly the same. He explained, “These were taken when I was 20 years old.”

Shindong continued, “How much did you earn?” to which Lee Joon replied, “My hourly wage was around 40,000won (~40USD). It was a very satisfying part-time job.” As others expressed their envy over the high salary, MC Jang Dong Min could not help but joke, “They must be waiting for you to turn bald.”

MC Shin Dong Yup said to Lee Joon, “I heard you went to many auditions before debuting, but surprisingly, you were rejected every time.” The idol revealed the reason behind this, “They focused on my appearance, and told me that my eyes are too far apart. They told me that my eyes will look even more far apart on camera, so I massaged my nose [to make it more defined], but it didn’t help.”

Shin Dong Yup caused everyone to burst in laughter as he said, “You should have done that at a young age. I did it and turned out like this. One day my nose became higher, but my eyes were cornered. That was when I realized that if you get one thing, you will lose something else.”

ToHeart and NC.A who have fansigning schedules on April 19 both postpone to join the second day of mourning for the ship tragedy occurred yesterday.

FIESTAR postpone comeback date to join the mourning for the ship tragedy

FIESTAR postpone their comeback to sympathize and mourn after the ship tragedy occurred yesterday.

A very unfortunate news has broken out on April 16, after a South Korea ferry sank on its way to Jeju leaving 6 people dead and almost 290 passengers missing , including high school students missing.

Prior to this, FIESTAR agency told StarNews on 17, "FIESTAR is going to release new single on April 25 and the full scale promotional activities which scheduled to start on 23rd are all postponed." Adjusting to later date than the original plan.

The group is coming back with five members after Cheska's withdrawal last month. Hope fans can patiently wait for Jei, CaoLu, Linzy, Hyemi, and Yezi's comeback.
